The Carbon County Community Foundation has a number of scholarship opportunities for students graduating from Carbon County school districts.  Applications are typically available in January of each year.  Scholarship winners are announced at each school’s Senior Awards Ceremony at the end of the school year.  Following those Awards Ceremonies, all applicants receive an email update notifying them to the status of their application.

UPDATE (February 25, 2024):
We are aware that the FAFSA Forms are delayed this year and that students may not have the form in time to submit with the scholarship application(s).  Students should submit the application(s) without the FAFSA Form.  The forms can be emailed to director@cccfoundpa.org after the application deadline.

County-Wide:

Carbon Leadership ‘Spirit of Volunteerism’ Scholarship

Established by the 2023-24 Leadership Carbon Class at Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation, the Leadership Carbon ‘Spirit of Volunteerism’ Scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable award of $500 granted to a qualified graduating high school senior (or home-schooled student who has a state-recognized graduation certificate/diploma) who demonstrates a commitment to volunteering and community-mindedness.

Eugene “Peck” Armbruster Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Lehighton Nest #183, this scholarship honors the memory of Eugene “Peck” Armbruster, a longtime member who worked as a foreman at Blue Ridge Pressure Castings in Lehighton.  The scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable award of $500 granted to a qualified graduating high school senior (or home-schooled student who has a state-recognized graduation certificate/diploma) residing in Carbon County who is seeking to further his or her education in a trade career at a 2 or 4-year college, university, or trade school.

Glenn Eisenhower Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Lehighton Nest #183, this scholarship honors the memory of Glenn Eisenhower, a longtime member who was employed as an ironworker for Ironworkers Local 36, Easton PA for many years.  The scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable award of $500 granted to a qualified graduating high school senior (or home-schooled student who has a state-recognized graduation certificate/diploma) residing in Carbon County who is seeking to further his or her education in a trade career at a 2 or 4-year college, university, or trade school.

Orioles Scouting Scholarship

Established by the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Lehighton Nest #183, this scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable $500 award granted to a qualified graduating high school senior (or home-schooled student who has a state-recognized graduation certificate/diploma) residing in Carbon County.  Applicants should be a current particant in the Boy Scouts of America or Girl Scouts of the USA with a strong record of volunteerism and community service.

Carbon Collaborative Health & Human Services Scholarship

Established by the Carbon Collaborative (formerly the Interagency and Family Collaborative Board), this scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable $1,000 award granted to a qualified graduating high school senior (or home-schooled student who has a state-recognized graduation certificate/diploma) residing in Carbon County who wishes to pursue further education and/or a career in a health or human service field.

Jim Thorpe:

Anastasia Susko Memorial Scholarship

Established by the family and friends of Ana Susko following her passing, this scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable $1500 award granted to any qualified graduating female high school senior (or home-schooled student who has a state-recognized graduation certificate/diploma) residing in Jim Thorpe.  Applicants should have a proven record of academic success with at least a 3.0 GPA cumulative average over the time period of two years prior to graduation and should demonstrate leadership and compassion despite having faced adversity.

Hunters Heroes Memorial Scholarship

Established by a close family friend, this scholarship honors the memory of Hunter Kurak Wolfe and grants a one-year, non-renewable $500 award to a qualified senior graduating from Jim Thorpe Area High School.  Applicants should exhibit great leadership and involvement throughout their community.  An unsung hero who reflects hard work, courage, and passion in all that they do.

Tyler Strong Memorial Scholarship

Established by family and friends to honor the memory of Tyler Kowatch, this scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable award of $500 granted annually to a qualified graduating high school senior graduating from Jim Thorpe Area School District who is seeking to further their education at a trade/technical school or community college.  The scholarship is based on merit alone, which should be demonstrated through good attendance and character; the ideal candidate is someone who is fair, friendly, and a peacemaker among peers.  Preference will be given to a track and field athlete.

Lehighton:

D&P Hawk Scholarship

Established by David and Patricia Hawk, this scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable award of up to $5,000 granted annually to two qualified high school seniors, one male and one female, graduating from Lehighton Area School District.  Applicants should show proficiency in science, math, or business with the intent to pursue further education in one of those fields.  The Hawks both consider themselves fortunate to have received financial support for their secondary education and wish to pay it forward for current students for whom college may be a financial hardship.

Palmerton:

“Keys to Your Future” Award

Established and presented by The Jim Christman Team – Keller Williams Real Estate, this award will provide a $500 Visa Gift Card to a student graduating from Palmerton Area School District who demonstrates community and volunteer involvement and pride in his or her hometown.  This is not intended to be a strictly educational scholarship, and the recipient is not required to attend a post-secondary education institution. The award money can be used for anything that will assist the recipient with their future plans for success.

Susan J. Tisiker Memorial Scholarship

Established by Donald Katz, Esq. in memory of his wife, this scholarship is a one-year, renewable award granted to a qualified graduating high school senior (or home-schooled student who has a state-recognized graduation certificate/diploma) from Palmerton Area School District.  This scholarship can be renewed for up to four years for a maximum $8,000 ($2,000 per year) awarded per recipient.  Applicants should demonstrate financial need and community or volunteer involvement.  Preference will be given to students who are or have been active in Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts for at least four years, though this is not a requirement.

Panther Valley:

Coach Carroll Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Lady Panthers Basketball Club at Panther Valley School District, this award will provide a $500 scholarship to student-athletes from each of the participating teams in the annual Coach Carroll Classic basketball tournament.  The scholarship is presented in memory of Coach Brian “Har” Carroll, a Panther Valley coach who passed away in 2022.  The 2024 Coach Carroll Classic will be held on January 13th, featuring Panther Valley vs. Jim Thorpe.

About Scholarship Funds

Scholarship Funds are generally the most popular type held at a Community Foundation.  These funds support the pursuits of students at different levels of education, and can be established to promote a certain career or industry, acknowledging a special school or community, or honor the memory of loved ones.

Setting up a fund is easy and takes less time than opening a bank account. Donors make a contribution of personal assets (cash, stock, real estate and more) to establish the fund and receive an immediate tax deduction.  Once you name your fund and define the guidelines for scholarship recipients, we will administer the scholarship applications each year and will work with you and a committee to pick the recipients.
