The Coach Carroll Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Lady Panthers Basketball Club at Panther Valley School District, the Coach Carroll Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide financial assistance for higher education to students in memory of Coach Brian “Har” Carroll, a Panther Valley coach who passed away in 2022.
The Coach Carroll Memorial Scholarship shall be a one-year, non-renewable scholarship with a minimum of $500. It shall be awarded annually to four qualified graduating high school seniors who are members of the boys’ or girls’ basketball teams participating in the annual Coach Carroll Classic basketball games.
Minimum qualifications for the scholarship include:
- Graduating high school senior with plans to attend an institution of higher education or advanced vocational training
- Active member of the boys’ or girls’ basketball team at Panther Valley High School or of the boys’ or girls’ basketball team of the opponent team in that year’s Coach Carroll Classic basketball games
- Dedication to the basketball program at his/her respective school
The recipients of this scholarship are selected each year by the coaching staff of the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams for each school.
Brian “Har” Carroll taught at McAdoo Catholic before settling into his career as a third-grade teacher at Jim Thorpe Area School District’s Penn-Kidder Campus. He loved teaching, and he loved his students. He was a longtime coach at Panther Valley and Jim Thorpe for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. To say that Har was a sports fanatic would be an extreme understatement. Everyone knew that he loved Notre Dame and the Yankees, but Har never turned down an opportunity to see a live sporting event. He made it his mission to visit every MLB stadium. Brian loved to travel and was well on his way to visiting all 50 states. He often related everyday life to Seinfeld episodes. He loved concerts, hair bands and TV-13 news.
