The Carbon County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that four area graduating high school seniors have been named 2020 Scholarship Recipients for various funds at the Foundation. All four students excel academically and are involved in a myriad of activities in and out of school. Read on for more information about this year’s scholarship recipients.
Taylor Craigie
Jim Thorpe, PA
Tyler Strong Memorial Scholarship
Taylor Craigie is a 2020 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School. As a student, she participated in varsity basketball, track and field, and was the varsity baseball manager. She was a member of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD), Spanish Club, and Yearbook.
Taylor is the daughter of Eric Craigie and Susan Marykwas. She is looking forward to attending Lehigh Carbon Community College in the fall, where she will study Special Education.
Established by the family and friends of Tyler Kowatch following his passing, this scholarship is intended to support qualified students from the Jim Thorpe Area High School in Carbon County.
Cobe Frycklund
Lehighton, PA
Orioles Scouting Scholarship
Cobe Frycklund is a graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School Class of 2020. His numerous activities and awards while a student include, a two-year member of the National Honor Society; Senior Class President; JT Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete; All Academic Gold Team; 2x All State Football; Schuylkill County All Star and Dream Team Member; Football Captain; Dwight D. Eisenhower Award Recipient at West Point; Student Rotarian; Rotary Youth Leadership Academy Participant; and Torch Team Leader, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Cobe is the CEO of GeckoZone LLC and ReptiZone LLC, where he shares his knowledge of animals by doing live animal presentations at schools, rehabilitation centers, and throughout the community to promote animal conservation.
Cobe is the son of Atty. Robert and Mrs. Shannon Frycklund. He is looking forward to attending Bloomsburg University in the fall to study Field Biology: Ecology and Wildlife Conservation and to play football for the Huskies.
Established by the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Lehighton Nest #183, this scholarship provides financial assistance for higher education to participants in the Boy Scouts of America or Girl Scouts of the USA in Carbon County.
Maille Galvin
Albrightsville, PA
The Anastasia Susko Memorial Scholarship
Maille Galvin is a graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and Business Honors Society. During her senior year, she was captain of the Jim Thorpe Cheerleaders. Maille spent much of her time outside of school completing community service and was recognized with the National Bronze Service Award for her contributions of time.
Maille will be attending Marywood University in the fall to study Nutrition and Dietetics. She plans to become a Registered Dietitian.
Established by the family and friends of Ana Susko following her passing, the Fund is intended to support qualified students from the Jim Thorpe High School in Carbon County.
Logan Kresge
Palmerton, PA
Orioles Scouting Scholarship
Logan Kresge graduated from Palmerton Area High School on June 15th with a graduation ceremony held at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond. He enjoys the outdoors and other activities; either hiking, kayaking, golfing, or outside basketball. Logan earned his Eagle Scout rank in January, 2018, from Boy Scout Troop #209. He participated in many outdoor activities with the Troop, the highlight of which was a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in the Summer of 2017, where his crew hiked more than 100 miles in the mountains of New Mexico.
Logan participates in Future Business Leaders of America; National Honor Society; Scholastic Scrimmage; and STEM Competition. He also played on the Golf, Basketball, and Baseball teams.
Logan is looking forward to continuing his education at Penn State University at State College in the Fall, where he will be studying Mechanical Engineering. He is looking forward to what the future brings.
