Kidder Hike & Bike Trail Fund

Kidder Hike and Bike Trail Map PhotoEstablished by a gift from the Kidder Hike & Bike Trail Group, the Kidder Hike & Bike Trail Fund is established for everyone to safely enjoy hiking and biking around the lakes and forests in Kidder Township. Thousands of visitors come to the Poconos each year, and there are no dedicated trails for hiking or bicycling in Kidder Township. Residents and visitors must hike and bike on two-lane roads shared with cars and trucks. The risk is higher in the summer when there is heavy traffic.

With the assistance of the Kidder Hike & Bike Trail Group, Kidder Township was able to complete the first 1/3 mile of the Kidder Hike and Bike Trail (KHBT), which connects Big Boulder Lake and downtown Lake Harmony (circled in green in the photo on the right). The KHBT runs alongside Big Boulder Drive and Lake Harmony Road, providing a safe and convenient way for hikers and bikers to reach the area’s restaurants, lodging, and other attractions. The completed part of the trail is 1/3 mile long, 12 feet wide, and handicap accessible with its flat, crushed stone surface visible in the picture below. There are plans to continue the trail through the mountains’ beautiful wooded areas and provide easy access to public areas.

The Kidder Hike & Bike Trail group comprises volunteers who raise funds, recruit other volunteers, and help the township build the trail system. Their work is funded primarily through fundraising, grants, donations, and events, including an annual “Float Your Boat” event.
