There’s something special about being a Penn State fan. It’s a connection that follows you long after graduation—and for members of the Carbon County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, that connection has inspired a new way to give back to the community they call home. The chapter has established the Penn State Carbon County Scholarship Fund through the Carbon County Community Foundation to support graduating high school seniors from Carbon County who plan to attend Penn State University.
The $500 scholarship will support a local student attending Penn State or one of its satellite campuses, with consideration given to financial need and commitment to community service. The scholarship grew out of the chapter’s desire to create a lasting opportunity for local students—and by establishing the fund here in Carbon County, contributions stay local and directly support students from our community.
The chapter members will gather in camaraderie and celebration for a Penn State Watch Party on Saturday, October 17, at West End Saloon in Palmerton for the Penn State vs. Michigan game. The event will include food, a cash bar, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, food drive, and Penn State T-shirts for purchase. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children ages 6–12, and free for children 5 and under, with food included. Kickoff time has not yet been announced, but the party will begin approximately one hour before kickoff. Reservations are required by October 4.
Want to help a local student become a Nittany Lion? You can make a gift to the Penn State Carbon County Scholarship Fund at any time. Every contribution helps build a lasting source of support for Carbon County students pursuing their Penn State education.
The Penn State Carbon County Scholarship Fund joins nearly 20 scholarship opportunities hosted by the Community Foundation for local students pursuing higher education. This newest scholarship is a great example of how a group of people with a shared connection can make a meaningful difference for students right here in Carbon County
WE ARE… Penn State. And we are Carbon County. 💙
About Scholarship Funds
Scholarship Funds are generally the most popular type held at a Community Foundation. These funds support the pursuits of students at different levels of education, and can be established to promote a certain career or industry, acknowledging a special school or community, or honor the memory of loved ones.
Setting up a fund is easy and takes less time than opening a bank account. Donors make a contribution of personal assets (cash, stock, real estate and more) to establish the fund and receive an immediate tax deduction. Once you name your fund and define the guidelines for scholarship recipients, we will administer the scholarship applications each year and will work with you and a committee to pick the recipients.
